Ed Smith Candidate Statement
Occupation: Monterey Council Incumbent, Retired Police Commander Education and Qualifications: We live in a great city with cultural history
and diversity. As an incumbent, I have listened to and responded to our residents’ concerns. Monterey requires experienced leaders to resolve its sometimes-complex issues. I will
continue to maintain Monterey’s high quality of life, enhancing recreational opportunities for all, including our youth, preserving neighborhoods, and maintaining a clean, secure and fiscally
responsible city.
My priorities are addressing traffic congestion, continue fixing our streets, sidewalks and storm drains and being a steward of local resources. Sharron, my wife of 45 years, and I grew up on
the Monterey Peninsula, and have lived in our Monterey home for 36 years. We have two children and both attended Monterey schools.
I proudly served 26 years with Monterey Police, retiring after 34 years in public service as a
division commander. I hold a Master’s in Public Administration, a Bachelor’s, and a Teaching Credential.
I represent Monterey on many boards, including:
transportation, regional government and downtown Monterey business and served on the Sanctuary Advisory Council for Monterey Bay. I am proud to be on a City Council that has streamlined
government while maintaining high levels of services.
I humbly ask for your support again.
