Ed was born in Monterey and raised on the Monterey Peninsula, attending local schools, graduating from Pacific Grove High in 1971. He married his high school sweetheart Sharron, who graduated from Monterey High School.

 

After graduating from MPC in 1973, Ed and Sharron were married and went off to college. He graduated from Sacramento State with a BA in Criminal Justice in 1975. After several years, Ed returned to College, attending night school to work on his Master's Degree, graduating in 1983 from Golden Gate University with a Master’s of Public Administration in Federal, State & Urban Governance.

 

He and his wife have lived in Monterey since returning from college and raised two children living in the same home for over 36-years. Sharron and both of their children graduated from Monterey High School.

 

"We have always felt that we are fortunate to have been able to return back home after college and to raise our family in Monterey. We truly love our town."

 

Ed's adult children: Amy Baj (married to Chris) live in Florida where she is a Public Relations Director. Peter finished serving in the Ist. Division of United States Army and currently is a commercial electrical apprentice in Monterey. Ed and Sharron have three grandchildren; Liam Hunter Smith 9 yrs. old, Hadley Rose Baj 4 yrs. old and Stella Harper Baj just shy of 2 yrs.old.

Personal Involvement and Work Experience

  • Co-owner On Base Leadership; leadership consulting and training company
  • Owned and operated a retail business in Monterey, established in 1991 sold in 1998
  • Command level experience with a career spanning 34 years in Law Enforcement
  • Former Board Member of a Community Church and past board member of a private school
  • Experience on a City Joint Powers Agreement, Technical Advisory Committee member, local government services consulting, personnel/leadership work 
  • Project manager, construction & technology data systems, the last one being 2 million dollar project involving multi jurisdictions
  • Volunteer for AT&T, 1st Tee tournaments and Special Olympics events
  • Past President of the Cannery Row Rotary Club and graduate of Monterey Peninsula Leadership
  • Managed numerous special events: July 4th events, Monterey Fair, Auto Auction, Cherries Jubilee, First Night, Monterey Jazz Festival and Cannery Row Days, etc.

  • Former Instructor MPC Police Academy, Criminal Justice courses
  • Leadership/management; Instructor, State of California numerous agencies
  • Current trainer in leadership and organizational management

 

 

Interests / Hobbies

  • Family time: Golf, Football- 49ers and Baseball- Giants
  • Reading: world history, modern leadership & organizational management
